We support many initiatives and charitable events that we are not directly involved in organizing. Bursting with Speed is 5k and Half Mile annual marathon benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Benny Burst was a faith-filled family man and an avid runner and fisherman. He logged several full marathons and could be spotted most mornings running through Lakeview, Bucktown and Old Metairie. He was married to Yolande Burst for 52 years and they had five children (Benny, Shawn, Scott, Mike & Tara) eleven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
In early 2013, Benny began searching for answers to some vague symptoms he was experiencing; by June he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). After several rounds of chemotherapy, he lost his fight on December 21, 2013.
At the request of the event committee and in lieu of the ongoing Coronavirus situation the Bursting with Speed Run/Walk is canceled for April 18th. Plans are to reschedule at a later date pending more details from local and state officials. For additional announcements please visit raceroster.com.
Raising money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
The Bursting with Speed 5K is held annually to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Few advances have been made in the treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML); the goal of this race is to make a difference. Please consider a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of Benny Burst. To donate please visit raceroster.com.
